Heidi left home at 6am on Sunday and flew from Madison to Chicago.
I had poor Michael up at 4am to drive me to Dorval for an 8am flight. It took 1hr and a half to get through check-in, security and customs which left 15 minutes wait before boarding.
Heidi was waiting for me at the Gate in Chicago. No problems finding each other.
The first item to try and resolve was our seat assignment. We had booked 23a and b but only Heidi got her seat. I had 54F. We managed to change mine to a better seat than 54F but not to 23B.
We had two hours to kill and Heidi had a few other items she had to resolve so we found a restaurant and settled in.
We thought we would take one more try at changing seats and had a sliver of hope when we saw that the two people in the row weren't related but it turns out that one was stubborn and the other had a similar story - she had her 3 sisters and booked 4 seats together and none of them were together and in this seat she was at least behind one of her sisters. Oh well.
The flight was pretty much what you would expect from a 12 hour flight- Long.
Once in Japan we got through passport control without issue, got our bags (yeah!) and through customs. As soon as we got through customs, still a little disoriented we got approached by some japanese tv crew. They wouldn't take no for an answer and kept in our way so we answered we finally gave in. They asked where we were from, our relationship (yes the stares have already started), and what brought us to Japan. Michael is thinking it's part of a show called why did you come to Japan. I was sooooo embarrassed!
we found the post office where our Mifi (portable wifi) was delivered and found the shuttle bus to the hotel. The airport is very easy to find your way around we had no problem at all.
Once in the hotel, My plan was first a short nap, then food, then repack our bags (we plan to leave the bulk of our stuff here at the hotel and only take the minimum with us for the next 9 days). The alarm went off after an hour and a half and we both promptly went right back to sleep. It's now 4 in the morning and we've been up a couple of times during the night but have fallen right back asleep.
This explains why you are posting comments on the family blog at what I assumed was the middle of the night. I will answer after I check with Mireille.
