September 21st in words

I thought I took it easy yesterday but then I checked the fitbit stats.

I realize that the street names don’t mean much to others. Before I came here I couldn’t keep them straight either but the guide book lists these streets as must see places so for those who do recognize the names – yesterday’s goal was Allenby and Rothschild Avenue. I was pleased with myself for finding the streets geographically however I failed to see what the attraction was. To me, Allenby is just a busy shopping street. I have to say Rothschild was a bit of a relief after Allenby. It has almost a park that runs down the middle of it. One path for cyclists, the other for pedestrians and it’s tree lined so there is a bit of a break from the sun. What I didn’t find were houses that were built in the Bauhause style. Or maybe I did and I just didn’t recognize them. A very odd site in the middle of the boulevard was what I believe was a coffee promotional event but it was an Ode to England. They had a huge videotron playing scenes from London, someone dressed up as a mounty (he was failing miserably at keeping a straight face) and someone dressed as the Queen. It was very odd.
At the end of Rothschild is the Habima National Theatre which had some interesting architecture and art but it was just so hot out and the plaza was almost blinding. I made my way from there over to the Tel Aviv Museum of Art (with a stop for ice cream). From the museum I decided not to retrace my steps and after looking over some maps decided to take HaMelech George street back. This turned out to be a good choice as it was a very interesting street. This brought me back to the start of the Carmel market and our neighbourhood – the Yemenite Quarter.

After some lunch at the Airbnb I headed to the beach for a swim. Odd thing about the Mediterranean Sea – it’s rather warm. I can’t say that I found it refreshing and I swear something tried to bite my toe! After a quick shower I joined Heidi at the conference centre where we lucked out and someone gave us a ticket to the dinner so I was able to join them for free! Dinner was very nice, it was at the rowing club and we were able to sit outside and enjoy the evening.
